Your Choice: Complicit or Courageous?

IT’S BEEN CALLED perhaps the most important, must-read book of our time. It was one of my husband’s Christmas gifts. Something we’ve both been wanting to read after hearing about it at church. Forget the “Jelly-of-the-Month Club,” this is a gift that will give wisdom about what’s happening and what’s on the way for the USA.

FIRST HEARD ABOUT IT back in March when I was blessed to attend the National Religious Broadcaster’s Conference. Bestselling author, radio show host and historian Eric Metaxas was one of the international speakers who blew the audience away.

IN “LETTER TO THE AMERICAN CHURCH,” Metaxas goes straight for the jugular, calling pastors and congregations to wake up to the cultural moment we are in and to take a stand against the onslaught of anti-God Socialism, divisive Marxism, controlling Communism and tyrannical globalism — coordinated, planned, deceptive attacks on our civil liberties and religious freedoms in America.

THE AUTHOR of a bestselling biography of martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Metaxas reveals the haunting similarities between today’s American Church and the complicit German Church of the 1930s, which allowed (via complacency) an invasion of Nazi evil. Echoing the German martyr’s prophetic call, a bold Metaxas exhorts his fellow Christians to repent of their silence in the face of a rising onslaught upon morality.

METAXAS maintains that an attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has all but extinguished the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Translation: sin is accepted and the cross of Christ discarded.

AS BONHOEFFER and other heroes of the faith insisted, the Church has an irreplaceable role in the culture of a nation. It is our duty to fight the powers of darkness, especially on behalf of the weak and vulnerable.
